CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — The construction of a self-contained biosecured swine facility has commenced in Barangay Tuburan, marking a significant step in bolstering the local swine industry’s resilience against challenges such as African Swine Fever (ASF).

The groundbreaking ceremony for the facility took place yesterday, August 30, this year.

The project, backed by a budget of P15 million, is a collaborative effort to counter the impact of ASF on the swine industry.

The Department of Agriculture Region 10 allocated 10 million pesos for the project as part of the Integrated National Swine Production Initiative for Recovery and Expansion (INSPIRE) program.

This initiative aims to aid areas affected by ASF. Additionally, a portion of the 10 million pesos budget will be dedicated to the purchase of 300 piglets or piglets and the necessary feeds once the facility is completed.

Local government support for the program also contributed an additional P5 million to the budget.

With the anticipated benefits from the biosecured swine facility, local authorities are optimistic about reviving the backyard hog raisers’ community and addressing the setbacks caused by ASF.
