CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Crime rate is down, says Philippine National Police Northern Mindanao regional director Brig. Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr, on Wednesday.

Narcoda attributed the decrease to the sustained law enforcement operations have resulted to a decrease in crime rate from January to June 2022, as recorded in the Philippine National Police Region 10 records (PNP-10) as of Monday, July 4.

In a statement, PRO-10 said it has become “more aggressive” in maintaining peace and order in Northern Mindanao “despite the slight glitches that this region has encountered.”

The PRO-10’s Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division (RIDMD), the crime rate has shown a significant decrease of 755 incidents or 9.40 percent recorded from January to June 2022 compared to same period last year.

“In fact, PRO10 arrested a total of 147 wanted persons in the last SACLEO that led to the arrest of several high-ranking wanted persons,” PRO-10 said.
SACLEO refers to the simultaneous anti-criminality law enforcement operation.

PRO-10 added its police personnel have conducted 921 anti-drug operations with 1,147 arrested and 4.193 kilos of crystal meth or “shabu,” estimated to be worth P28.5 million, confiscated from said period.

In addition, 225 persons were also arrested in the campaign against loose firearms from 1,848 operations conducted, with 387 firearms either confiscated, surrendered or recovered.

“The significant decrease of crime rate in this region is attributed to the PRO10’s intensified and continuous conduct of [SACLEO], One-Time Big-Time Operation (OTBT), and other Law Enforcement Operations. Thus, with its significant decreased, it is only an indication that our Law Enforcement Operation is successful,” said Brig. Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr, PRO-10 regional director.

Acorda also said that despite having all the operational activities, PRO-10 also implemented Police Community Relations regionwide, from cities down to remote areas purposely to gain the trust of the community.

“We at PRO-10 will not stop in our job to keep this region a peaceful one. The criticisms we receive is not a hindrance for us to do our job. The allegations of some individuals that your police in region 10 are inactive are baseless and unfounded. Our records speak for itself. We will continue our law enforcement operations and eliminate all forms of criminalities,” Acorda said.

He added PRO-10 is encouraging the public to continuously support the government in its whole-of-nation approach to end conflicts by reporting any illegal activities or threats in their locality.
