KIDAPAWAN CITY – Some 736 hog raisers in North Cotabato affected by the African Swine Fever (ASF) infestation will receive P14.9-M from the Department of Agriculture (DA).

“The disbursement will begin next week and will be done per municipality,” said Provincial veterinarian Dr. Rufino Sorupia on Tuesday.

Those in Arakan town will receive assistance on January 18; Kidapawan City and Makilala on Jan. 19-20; Pres. Roxas on Jan. 21, and Magpet on Jan. 22.

“The total amount depends on the number of hogs that they owned and have been culled during our intense drive to stop the infestation,” Sorupia said.

Every depopulated hog is valued at P5,000.

On the part of the provincial government, the office of Gov. Nancy Catamco allotted P10-M as supplemental aid to the affected hog raisers.

The provincial government will give an equivalent of P2,000 for each depopulated hog and P500 for the piglets.  This is over and above the assistance to be given by the DA. – Newsline.ph
