Davao City allots P1-M assistance for typhoon affected Marikina

August 14, 2018 by Armando B. Fenequito Jr.

DAVAO CITY (August 14)- The Davao City government will send P 1 million assistance to typhoon affected Marikina City in Metro Manila to be used for its relief assistance to the victims of the calamity.

On Tuesday, August 14, the Sangguniang Panlungsod has approved  under its suspended rules, the resolution for the aid that will be drawn from the remaining  P105 million Quick Response Fund of the city’s Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management fund.

Vice Mayor Bernard Al-ag said in an interview, that this was requested by Mayor Sara Z. Duterte .  “Marikina is our sister city, if you remember we went there two months ago and we signed an agreement, and part of that agreement is to help each other. Since Marikina has been flooded from the past days Mayor Sara requested that we will utilize P1 million,” he said.

Al-ag said the assistance that will be given to the Marikina City government will be use for their relief assistance to the victims of the calamity.  Marikina declared a state of calamity last July 22 after they were hit by typhoons Indaya and Josie.  They have yet to recover when typhoon Karding flooded their place again.  A total 1,271 families or 5,265 individuals are leaving their houses to evacuate to the nearest public schools and gymnasiums.

The financial assistance will be personally handed by City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office  head Emmanuel Jaldon to the City of Marikina.

Al-ag assured Dabawenyos there is enough fund from the city until December 31, this year.

Earlier, the city government has also extended a P4.250 million aid to the  eight municipalities and city from the provinces of Bulacan,  Pampanga, Pangasinan and Tarlac which were hit by Typhoon Inday.    Armando B. Fenequito Jr./NewsLine
