Davao City earns P1-M in 30 days from Roxas Night market

DAVAO CITY — The re-opening of Roxas Night Market here benefitted not only the venders but also the city coffers.

The record from the City Economic Enterprise of the city shows that since the night market opened in Late March it earned over one million (P1,000,000) until April.

The city government decided to open the people’s night market after the Inter-Agency Task Force on for Emerging Infectious Diseases (AITF) classified Davao City under Alert Level 1 health status as cases of Covid-19 has lowered last march.

For over two years, the market closes due to the threat brought about by the pandemic,

Many lost business and job opportunities.

Last March some close to 5,000 people eagerly visited the place during the opening, this time, with stiff security and health protocol in placed as the pandemic is still alive.

In its announcement, the City Economic Enterprise announced, the city earned P1,052,000 derived from the space rental of some 258 stall owners.

Based on the city’s rental matrix, food stall owners pay P3,100 monthly rental, RTW and accessories stall owners pay P2,170 or seventy pesos (P70/daily.

While the massage stall owners pay only P620 a month or P20 daily rental.

City Economic Enterprise Office Head Celerino P. Eralino said the reopening of the popular night market is part of the economic recovery initiatives of the City Government of Davao as discussed by the Davao COVID-19 Task Force.
