DAVAO CITY – To prevent the possible entry of African Swine Fever (ASF) virus in this city, the local government installed quarantine stations in all entry and exit points of the city on Friday.

Dr. Cerelyn Pinili, head of the City Veterinarian Office (CVO), said the quarantine stations will not only limit to livestock coming into the city but to other animals as well.

“The quarantine areas which are the main entry and exit points in the city were: Barangay Lasang, Barangay Sirawan, and Barangay Lacson,” she said.

Pinili added that the quarantine station which operates 24/7 will be manned by five city vet personnel, which will also be supported by Task Force Davao (TFD).

Pinili said the inspectors will check and prevent the entry of hogs and pork products without proper documents.

“Once the X-ray machine will detect meat, automatically it will be confiscated, especially if there are no documents,” she said.

Pinili said inspectors from their office will also check all the necessary documents proving that there is no infection in the area the hogs and pork meat came from before it will be allowed into the city.

On Tuesday, the City Council passed a resolution for a temporary ban of entry of hog and pork products in the city amid the reported cases of African swine fever in Luzon.

Once signed, the executive order will impose a temporary ban on all pork products and by-products as well as the prohibition on swill feeding on backyard hogs. –PNA
