DAVAO CITY — President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday night announced that Davao City has been placed under Modified Community Quarantine (MGQC) status.

In his televised address to the nation, Duterte said only Cebu City remains under Enhanced Community Quarantine status while the National Capital Region (NCR) remains under General Community Quarantine.

In Mindanao, the following provinces and cities have been relaxed to MGCQ status: Zamboanga City, Bukidnon, Cotabato City, South Cotabato, Agusan del Norte, Butuan, Lanao del Sur and Maguindanao, since the rest of the provinces and cities have been placed under MGCQ earlier.

In Davao region, MGCQ status applies to Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao City and Davao de Oro.

Since June 16, Davao City has been placed under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) while the rest of the region has been lowed to MGCQ.

In his previous announcement, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said all residents living in areas under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) will be allowed to leave their homes as long as they observe minimum health standards.

Under the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases’ Resolution No. 41 allows everyone to leave their homes provided they wear face masks and practice physical distancing among other health and safety precautions.

Minimum public health standards refer to guidelines set by the Department of Health (DOH) and sector-relevant guidelines issued by the government agencies to aid all sectors in implementing non-pharmaceutical interventions to reduce transmission of COVID-19.

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio during the Monday interview over the city government-owned radio station DCDR said the city is ready to shift to a new quarantine status.

She expected that more people will go out since it is a very relaxed quarantine status.

But she reminded the Davao residents to continue wearing a face mask, observe physical distancing and to always wash their hands, saying there is no room for complacency, regardless of the quarantine status.-Newsline
