DAVAO CITY (July 22) – Ten new buses for the Davao City Interim Bus Service (DIBS)—a city-funded and operated program—are expected to arrive by September 2025, with deployment targeted by the fourth quarter of the year.
According to Atty. Tristan Dwight Domingo, Davao City Bus Project Manager, the units may be shipped by mid-August and arrive by the end of the month or early September. During this time, TESDA NC3-certified drivers will undergo hands-on training to operate the buses.
Pending final approval of routes from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), the buses will offer free rides during peak hours once deployed.
Domingo added that the Peak Hour Augmentation Bus System (PHABS) will continue operating alongside DIBS due to strong public demand. Ongoing transport studies will identify where PHABS can be further expanded.
The city is also hiring TESDA-certified mechanics and additional personnel to support DIBS operations at its command center.
