DAVAO CITY — The Davao Filipino-Chinese Multi-Sectoral Association, in collaboration with the city government, turned over 500 brand new luggage trolleys to the Davao International Airport (DIA) on Monday. The donation was made through the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).

Rex Obcena, the CAAP XI area manager, received the donations from Chinese Consul General in the city Zhao Xiuzhen and Johnny Tan, president of the Fil-Chinese Multi-Sectoral Organization. The event underscores the strong partnership between the local Filipino-Chinese community and the city government in enhancing airport services.

The donation comes amid growing concerns about the shortage and poor condition of luggage trolleys at DIA. Frequent travelers and airport staff have long complained about the lack of functional trolleys, which has caused inconvenience, especially during peak travel seasons. The new trolleys are expected to significantly improve the passenger experience, addressing these concerns.

Obcena expressed his gratitude for the donation, emphasizing that the new trolleys would greatly benefit both local and international travelers. “This generous donation will greatly enhance the convenience and efficiency of our airport services, ensuring that passengers have a more pleasant experience,” he said.

Consul Zhao Xiuzhen highlighted the importance of community support and cooperation in improving public services. “This is a testament to the strong relationship between our communities and our shared commitment to the development of Davao City,” Zhao said.

Johnny Tan added that the initiative is part of their ongoing efforts to contribute to the city’s development and support its infrastructure. “We are always looking for ways to give back to the community and support the city’s growth. This is just one of many projects we are involved in,” Tan said.

The donation also aligns with the city government’s goals to improve its public facilities and services. Mayor Sebastian Duterte, who attended the turnover ceremony, acknowledged the significant impact of the donation. “This collaboration between the Fil-Chinese community and the city government is a shining example of how we can work together to address the needs of our constituents and improve our city’s infrastructure,” Duterte said.

The new trolleys are now available for use at DIA, providing much-needed relief to travelers and marking a positive step forward in the ongoing efforts to enhance the airport’s facilities.
