DAVAO CITY (May 26) — A major shift in electricity distribution is set to take effect on May 26 after Davao Light and Power Company, Inc. (Davao Light and Power Company, Inc.) announced it will assume full power distribution services in Tagum City and three municipalities in Davao del Norte.

Davao Light president and COO Enriczar Tia said the transition covers Tagum City and the municipalities of Kapalong, New Corella, and Talaingod, following the implementation of a Supplemental Writ of Possession by a Regional Trial Court in Tagum City.

The court order grants Davao Light authority to take over operations, including system maintenance, billing and collection, and customer service functions previously handled by the Northern Davao Electric Cooperative, Inc. (NORDECO).

The move is anchored on Republic Act No. 12144, signed on April 6, 2025, which expanded Davao Light’s legislative franchise to cover additional areas in Davao del Norte and Davao de Oro.

Officials said the writ was implemented by court sheriff personnel on Monday, formally paving the way for the transition of operations in the affected areas.

Tia said billing under Davao Light will begin on May 26, as the company prepares to fully integrate customers into its distribution system.

“This marks another major step in the transition of electricity distribution operations in Davao del Norte,” Tia said.

He assured consumers that measures are in place to ensure stable and reliable electricity service during the transition period.

“We remain hopeful for the cooperation and coordination of NORDECO to help ensure a safe, orderly, and uninterrupted transition process,” he added.

The development is expected to significantly reshape the power distribution landscape in northern Davao, affecting thousands of households and businesses that will now be served under a new utility provider.
