Davao Light’s new digital substation powers growth in Lanang

March 4, 2025 by Branded content

DAVAO CITY – The Lanang Substation, Davao Light and Power Co., Inc.’s 30th distribution substation and sixth fully digital facility, is now operational, reinforcing power reliability and sustainability in one of the city’s fastest-growing districts.

Strategically located in Lanang, a bustling commercial and residential hub along the Davao Gulf, the new 50MVA substation is designed to meet the increasing power demands of businesses, residential developments, and upcoming infrastructure projects, including the 11-hectare Davao Park District.

Davao Light President and Chief Operating Officer Enriczar Tia emphasized the company’s foresight in addressing Lanang’s power needs.

“Prior years, we saw the need to build a substation in Lanang to cater to the diverse needs of its urban residents and flourishing business community,” Tia said.

Substations provide gateways to Davao Light’s distribution network, ensuring electricity flow stability, efficiency, and reliability. The Lanang Substation can accommodate up to 50,000 households, supporting existing and future developments in the area.

Equipped with digital technology, the substation enables real-time monitoring and control, improving response times during unscheduled outages and enhancing overall power reliability.

Furthermore, the Lanang Substation aligns with Davao Light’s sustainability goals, mirroring the Gredu Substation in Panabo, Davao del Norte. It incorporates solar energy for operations and a rainwater harvesting system for maintenance, reducing environmental impact and promoting green energy solutions.

“We continue to empower communities by investing in modern power infrastructure such as digital substations,” Tia added. “By ensuring a stable and reliable power supply, we drive economic growth, help businesses thrive, and improve the quality of life for residents.”

As a subsidiary of AboitizPower, Davao Light continues its mission to enhance efficiency and well-being in its franchise areas, covering Davao City, Panabo City, and the municipalities of Carmen, Dujali, and Sto. Tomas.

The Lanang Substation marks another milestone in Davao Light’s commitment to powering progress, innovation, and sustainability in Davao City and beyond.
