DAVAO CITY — In observance of the 52nd anniversary of Martial Law on Saturday, September 21, the Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod (HTL) has requested the City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) to close several streets.

The City Council approved the resolution on Tuesday in response to a request from Mikhal Evasco, Deputy Secretary General of HTL.

The affected roads include:

  • C.M. Recto Avenue (from Rizal St. to Magsaysay Ave.)
  • Roxas Avenue (from Aurora Quezon St. to C. Bangoy St.)
  • Jacinto Street (from P. Zamora St. to Magsaysay Ave.)
  • Magsaysay Avenue (from J. dela Cruz St. to C. Bangoy St.)

C.M. Recto Avenue at the corner of Roxas Avenue will be partially closed to vehicular traffic starting September 19 at 12 a.m. until September 21 at 3 p.m. A full closure for all affected streets will take place on September 21 from 3 p.m. to midnight.

In his letter, Evasco explained that the commemoration aims to raise awareness about the historical significance of Martial Law, honor those who were gravely affected by its injustices, and remind leaders that the Filipino people do not want to experience such a grim period again.

This year marks the 52nd anniversary of former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.’s signing of Proclamation No. 1081 on September 21, 1972, which placed the country under Martial Law.

The Saturday event follows the national convention of the Partido Demokratiko ng Pilipinas (PDP) on Friday, September 20.
