Davao’s Roxas night market opens

DAVAO CITY –— After two years, the Roxas night market here opened Thursday night and it was a success, said the Davao City Police Office.

According to police estimate, some 4,500 people flocked to the night market as many missed their favorite night escapade due to the pandemic.

The police established an orderly entrance and exit points, security protocols and health protocols were strictly enforced like no backpacks, no jackets allowed,

Every bag and hand carry items need to pass through the bomb sniffing dog for inspection while the city government established hand washing stations.

The city government in a statement said ” At least 286 food, ready-to-wear, and accessories vendors and massage therapists will resume operations.”

it added that of the 286, 56 are food vendors, 65 are ready-to-wear vendors, 100 are massage therapists, and 65 are accessories vendors. They all underwent a recent orientation

City Economic Enterprise Office Head Celerino P. Eralino said the reopening of the popular night market is part of the economic recovery initiatives of the City Government of Davao as discussed by the Davao COVID-19 Task Force.

Police recorded 180 vendors displaying different stuff and 80 masseurs serve the public.

“It was a success, we implemented all the security protocols as planned and there was close coordination among the security sector,” says PMaj. Teresita Gaspan, the spokesperson of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO).

The night market opens at 5:00 in the afternoon.

She attributed the success to the cooperation of the people who visited the area and the strong coordination with the Task-Foce Davao; Bureau of Fire Proection and other force multipliers.-Eugene Hinutan
