DAVAO CITY (May 10) – The son the Davao Oriental governor and a companion were arrested by police operatives during a buy-bust operation at their residence in Jasmine Blooms Apartelle, university Avenue, Juna Subdivision, Talomo District this city, Wednesday afternoon, May 9.
Captain Maria Teresita Gaspan, spokesperson of Davao City Police Office (DCPO), identified the suspects as Jossone Michael Dayanghirang, 32, alias Johnson, son of Davao Oriental reelectionist Governor Nelson Dayanghirang.
Police identified his alleged customer as Rodhel Abear Sanchez.
Gaspan said the suspects were caught in the act of sniffing prohibited drugs ‘shabu’ and when the operatives arrested him, “Dayanghirang identified himself as the son of Davao Oriental Governor Nelson Dayanghirang”, Gaspan revealed.
The suspects yielded seven sachets of suspected shabu with an estimated value of PHP208,000, drug paraphernalia, a cellular phone and two pieces PHP1,000 bill.
An asset who posed as poseur buyer was able to buy one square small-size of plastic sachet containing crystalline substance believed to be shabu from Dayanghirang and subsequently recovered the abovementioned suspected drugs items from his possession and control.
While Rojhel Abear Sanchez alias Ivan was caught in the act sniffing shabu using the above mentioned drug paraphernalia near the place of the drug transaction.
The suspects are now detained at Toril Police Station pending the filing of violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
In a press statement on Thursday, Governor Dayanghirang said he was sorry to hear about his son’s arrest. Just like other parents, he is sad about it, but thankful his son is alive.
“Bisan pa niini, dako ang akong pasalamat nga siya nadakpang buhi aron siya manubag sa iyang binuhatan ug aron aduna pay higayon nga siya mag bag-o (Despite this, I am thankful he was just arrested alive, for him to answer for his involvement in illegal drugs and be given a chance to change),” he said in the statement.
Dayanghirang admitted Jossone grow up under the care of his mother.
He admitted, he sent his son twice for rehabilitation when he learned about his activity in the past.
After the second rehab, he brought Jossone to Manila to live under a new environment and to ensure he will be away from the influence of the illegal drugs.
“Apan luyo sa akong paningkamot nagpadayon siya sa iyang bisyo nga dili maayo – hinungdan nga nagkabulag kami. Gani sobra unom ka tuig na kami wala magkita. Bisan pa man nipanaw sa laing kalibutan ang akong inahan ug amahan wala siya nagpakita (Despite all my efforts, he continued his activity and we separated. For six years we never saw each other even at the time when my mother and father passed away),” Dayanghirang lamented.
As governor of Davao Oriental, Dayanghirang said he exerted efforts to stop the proliferation of illegal drugs in the province.
The province’s programs against illegal drugs earned Davao Oriental as the only recipient of a Golden Award from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). -Editha Z. Caduaya/NewsLine.ph
