DAVAO CITY —- Today April 19 marks the 24th year since the deadliest air tragedy happened in the Philippines.

The ill-fated Boeing 737-2H4 of Air Philippines Flight 541 carrying 131 passengers and crew perished in Sitio Bungtod, Barangay San Isidro, Island Garden City of Samal while on approach to the Davao International Airport.

The airplane was put on hold as it was about to land because another aircraft was using the runway but it slammed into a mountain 500 feet above sea level, no one survived.

The photo serves as one of the best memories of the late veteran Photo journalist Rene B. Lumawag.
