DOH doctor, 5 others arrested in drug bust

DAVAO CITY (March 1) — A doctor of the Department of Health and five others, were arrested Wednesday dawn during a drug bust in a posh condominium in Mandaluyong City.

In a report submitted to PDEA Director-General Aaron Aquino, the suspects were identified as licensed physician Dr. Vanjoe de Guzman, 44; Keanu Andrea Flores, 21, student; Mark Echauz, 22; Francis Gerald Fajardo, 28; Michael Tan, 27, and one alias “Boy Kulot.’’

Fajardo, is a concert organizer while junior college varsity player Keanu Andrea Flores.

De Guzman, a medical doctor assigned at the Department of Health in Metro Manila was immediately held up by anti-drug agents after he transacted with a poseur buyer.

The DOH-MMCHD in a statement revealed “Dr. De Guzman is a regular DOH employee from February 2015. However, he has been on AWOL status since November 26, 2018. Despite written directives to report immediately to the office, Dr. De Guzman has failed to comply.”

Despite several attempts, de Guzman ignored the orders which the DOH-MMCHD “to issue an Order of Separation and commence disciplinary proceedings, in consultation with the Civil Service Commission, for his eventual dismissal from the service,” the statement added.

“All DOH-MMCHD employees, regardless of employment status, are subjected to Annual Mandatory Random Drug Testing,” it added.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency said De Guzman was also considered a drug den maintainer for conducting “shabu” sessions inside his condominium unit.

Authorities seized over 50 grams of shabu and suspected liquid ecstasy estimated to be worth P300,000 from the suspects.

PDEA SES Dir Levi says the suspects diluted shabu and used syringes to take in the drug; PDEA also reports clients-allegedly from students to celebrities visit suspect De Guzman’s condo for drug use and orgies.

The PDEA conducted a surveillance on de Guzman since November 2018, they noted that most of his clients are college students, event organizers and even some celebrities.

PDEA operatives also discovered photos and videos of drug use and orgies inside the condo unit.

The suspects are facing charges in violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.-Editha Z. Caduaya/NewsLine.ph
