DAVAO CITY – The Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) have partnered to provide free legal assistance to accredited tourism stakeholders and frontline workers, particularly those from Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

The partnership, which will make legal services accessible through IBP chapters nationwide, was announced by Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco and IBP National President Atty. Antonio C. Pido during the opening ceremony of the 20th National Convention of Lawyers in Lahug, Cebu City, on January 30.

Frasco emphasized that the partnership is part of the DOT’s commitment to strengthening institutions and ensuring that justice and legal aid are available to tourism stakeholders.

“This collaboration between the Department of Tourism and the IBP symbolizes the power of unity in addressing critical needs in our communities, especially ensuring that justice and legal assistance are accessible to those in the tourism sector,” she said.

The DOT and IBP will also coordinate on the proposed establishment of 24/7 tourist courts, a key initiative under the Marcos Administration, aimed at ensuring swift resolution of tourist-related cases in high-traffic destinations.

In addition to providing legal aid, the partnership extends benefits to IBP members through a DOT-IBP virtual Privilege Card. This will grant IBP members access to exclusive discounts from DOT-accredited tourism establishments, including MSMEs. The privilege card will be integrated into the IBP mobile application, allowing members to explore the country’s tourism offerings while supporting the industry’s growth.

Furthermore, the IBP will be allowed to incorporate the “Love The Philippines” tourism campaign into its marketing materials, reinforcing the promotion of Philippine destinations.

IBP President Atty. Antonio Pido highlighted the mutual benefits of the partnership, saying it recognizes the role of lawyers in nation-building while contributing to the local economy.

“This is a milestone for the IBP. Through this partnership with the DOT, we can show our appreciation to our members while uplifting the tourism sector. The privilege cards will allow our members to enjoy the country’s best travel experiences while also promoting economic growth,” Pido said.

The event was attended by Supreme Court Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo, Senior Associate Justice Marvic Leonen, several Associate Justices, Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia, House Deputy Speaker Duke Frasco, and Cebu City Mayor Raymond Alvin N. Garcia, among others.

The partnership is seen as a step toward ensuring accessible legal aid, protecting tourism stakeholders, and promoting inclusive economic development in the country.
