MANILA (July 30) — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is finalizing a report on all completed and ongoing flood control projects since 2022, set to be submitted to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. early next week.

DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan said they are currently consolidating data from District and Regional Engineering Offices, as ordered by the President following his 4th State of the Nation Address (SONA).

“I’ve instructed all district and regional offices to identify flood control projects that have been completed or are still in progress,” Bonoan said during the post-SONA discussions in San Juan City. He added that the report will also include projects initiated under previous administrations.

Bonoan noted that the agency will categorize the projects, particularly those that failed to perform during last week’s severe flooding, to assess whether they remain functional or need rehabilitation.

Since July 2022, the DPWH has completed approximately 9,800 flood control projects nationwide.

The President earlier emphasized the importance of this report to help ensure accountability and transparency in infrastructure spending, especially in flood mitigation efforts.
