DAVAO CITY (July 26) — President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday announced he has signed the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL).

In his speech before the fire victims in Zamboanga City late Thursday afternoon, Duterte repeatedly said “Pinirmahan ko na ang Bangsamoro Law,” referring to Bangsamoro Organic Law.

Duterte  mentioned  signing the law, when he urged  the Zamboangueños to ask members of the Abu Sayyaf to stop kidnapping civilians, “kasi napirmahan ko na ang BBL (referring to BOL).”

He asked the people not to outrightly reject the Bangsamoro Law “Huwag naman yong hindi agad” as he emphasized that “the  law can be modified and can be amended.”

It was not clear however, when he signed the law.

During his SONA, Duterte said “Despite all that has been said [for] or against the Bangsamoro Organic Law by all sectoral groups, I make this solemn commitment that this administration will never deny our Muslim brothers and sisters the basic legal tools to chart their own destiny within the Constitutional framework of our country.”

Duterte promised “When the approved version is transmitted and received by my office… The law has been passed actually and I intend to… Give me 48 hours to sign it and ratify the law. [applause] Babasahin ko pa bago ko pipirmahan. Baka may isiningit kayo diyan na hindi maganda para sa — para sa ibang tao.”

Reports have it, Duterte was supposed to sign the BOL  as the highlight of  his SONA,  but the change of leadership at the House changed the equation,  which resulted to the delay in  the ratification of the bicameral conference committee version of the bill.  –NewsLine.ph
