DAVAO CITY (July 16) – The southbound lane of Bolton Bridge I will be temporarily closed for 10 days—from 10:00 p.m. on Friday, July 18 until midnight of Sunday, July 27—to undergo emergency repairs on its expansion joints.
The 21st City Council approved the closure following a recommendation from the City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO), based on findings from bridge repair contractors who inspected the initial rehabilitation done in April.
CTTMO Acting Head Atty. Eduardo Perez IV said the previous repair schedule did not allow enough time for the proper curing of materials. This second round of repairs is intended to ensure long-term durability.
During the closure, Public Utility Vehicles (PUVs) and private vehicles may continue using Bolton Bridge II, which will remain open for two-way traffic. However, heavy vehicles, including large trucks, will be rerouted.
Trucks from Quezon Boulevard may take alternate routes through San Pedro St. to E. Quirino Avenue, or G. Torres St. (Sandawa) to Quimpo Boulevard.
The CTTMO, in coordination with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), will issue advisories and deploy personnel to monitor traffic and enforce the truck ban on Bolton Bridge II.
“We will coordinate with stakeholders and ensure a smooth traffic flow during the closure,” Perez said.
