COTABATO CITY–A former cop and a former soldier were arrested by joint operatives of the local police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PDEA-ARMM) during a buy-bust operation Wednesday afternoon.

Chief Insp. Alex Lanestosa, Police Station 3 commander, said authorities collared suspects Nelson Sali, 48, a former member of the city police force, and Francis Cando, a former soldier. Both are residents of Barangay Rosary Heights Mother.

Five sachets of suspected “shabu” (methamphetamine hydrochloride) and drug paraphernalia were confiscated from the suspects.

“The arrest was preceded by a month-long surveillance operation against the two believed to be members of a drug syndicate operating in the city,” Lanestosa said.

The suspects, who are now detained at city police lock-up cell, are facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. –PNA
