FFCCCII elects Dr. Pedro as president

The Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII) elected industrialist and philanthropist Dr. Cecilio Pedro as its new president in the afternoon of March 26 at the FFCCCII Building in Manila.

The election was the culmination of the 33rd Biennial Convention of FFCCCII from March 23 to 26 which was held at SMX Convention Center.

Some 820 delegates attended convention representing 170 Filipino Chinese chambers and other diverse business organizations across the country.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. served as the guest speaker and Deputy Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo was the special guest during the opening ceremony of the convention.

Other speakers throughout the convention included Supreme Court Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo, House Speaker Martin Romualdez, Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno and Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista.

Dr. Pedro is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Lamoiyan Corp. which manufactures Hapee toothpaste and Gumtech toothpaste and mouthwash.

Known for its economic advocacies and philanthropic projects, the Filipino-Chinese business group has been engaged in such projects as the FFCCCII Operation Barrio Schools that has already given 6,074 public school buildings in disadvantaged rural villages.

It also supports Filipino-Chinese volunteer fire brigades that helps victims of fire whoever they may be.

Dr. Henry Lim Bon Liong of the Sterling Paper Group and SL Agritech is the outgoing President of the FFCCCII while Dr. Lucio Tan of the LT and Philippine Airlines (PAL) is the Chairman Emeritus.

Dr. Pedro graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the Ateneo de Manila University in 1975. He was awarded with Honorary Doctorate of Philosophy in Technological Management by the Technological University of the Philippines in 2006.
