DAVAO CITY (April 22) — A 61-year-old Filipino household worker in Milan was killed during a burglary incident on Sunday, the Philippine Consulate General in Milan reported on Monday.

According to initial reports, the Filipino national was apparently strangled to death by a suspect who broke into the apartment of the victim’s Israeli employer near Parco Sempione. Italian police arrested the suspect at the scene.

In a statement released Monday, the Philippine Consulate expressed deep sorrow over the incident and assured the victim’s relatives of its support.

“The Consulate General of the Philippines extends its condolences to the family of the 61-year-old Filipino household employee who lost his life in this tragic burglary incident in Milan,” the statement read.

Consular officials met with relatives of the victim earlier today to offer assistance, including the repatriation of the victim’s remains to the Philippines.

The Consulate also called on the Filipino community in Milan to join in praying for the eternal repose of the departed kababayan.

Further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crime is ongoing. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the suspect.
