Davao City – A fire broke out in Purok Sanasa, Bucana, Barangay 76-A, late on December 3, 2024, destroying five houses and causing an estimated damage of ₱50,000, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

The blaze erupted at approximately 11:50 p.m. and was declared under control at 1:04 a.m. on December 4. Initial investigations by Fire Officer 2 Giovanni Vicente of the BFP suggest that an electrical short circuit, possibly from an extension wire, may have ignited the fire.

Residents sprang into action, using buckets of water and climbing onto rooftops to help extinguish the flames. However, the fire spread rapidly due to the houses being made of light materials.

Personnel from Central 911 Fire Auxiliary Services and the SIR Fire Station responded promptly to the scene, working together to prevent the fire from spreading further.

FO2 Vicente urged residents to prioritize fire safety measures. “Use only standard electrical wires to avoid fire hazards and unplug appliances when not in use. During power interruptions, be cautious when using candles, and never leave them unattended,” Vicente advised.

The displaced families are currently receiving assistance at Kasilak Gym in Bucana, Barangay 76-A, where they are being accommodated. Authorities continue to remind the public to exercise vigilance in ensuring fire safety, especially during power interruptions.
