Flash floods affects 2,000 families in Kabacan, North Cotabato

DAVAO  CITY–More than 200 families from seven villages in Kabacan, North Cotabato, evacuated to safer grounds Tuesday, due to waist-deep flood waters, brought about by inclement weather during the past two days.

Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) Chief David Don Saura, said the heavy downpour since Monday caused the flashfloods.

Kabacan is situated within the stretch of Pulangi and Kabacan rivers, flood waters overflowed in various irrigation canals.

Residents from the villages of Katidtuan, Upper Paatan, Kayaga, Malanduague, Aringay and Kayaga and sitio Lumayong, Osias, Lower Paatan, evacuated to safer grounds.

The flashflood also affected the vast rice fields in the municipality. Kabacan Mayor Herlo Guzman Jr. said “I urge people residing at the riverbanks to seek protection on higher grounds or evacuation centers as rampaging waters may sweep your homes away.”

The local government has distributed relief goods consisting of rice, noodles, and canned goods to the evacuation centers.. -Harold V. Pontongan/NewsLine.ph
