TACURONG CITY (November 10) – Former Maguindanao del Sur board member Taharuddin Nul Mlok escaped unhurt after gunmen on motorcycles opened fire at him in broad daylight Monday morning, November 10, in this city.

Police said the attack happened around 10:45 a.m. along the road in Barangay New Carmen, as Mlok was about to leave a convenience store. He had just entered his bullet-proof black Toyota Fortuner when two motorcycles carrying four men stopped nearby, and two of the riders fired at his vehicle.

“The victim was unharmed and managed to pursue the suspects, which resulted in a brief exchange of gunfire,” said Lt. Col. Jardi Mont Sibal, chief of Tacurong City police.

Investigators recovered several empty shells from the scene and are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the attackers and determine the motive.

Mlok, 51, a resident of Datu Piang town, previously served as a member of the Maguindanao del Sur provincial board and ran again for the same post under the Nacionalista Party in the 2025 elections.

Political violence remains a persistent concern in Maguindanao del Sur, a province carved out of the former Maguindanao in 2022, where ambushes involving local officials have been reported ahead of electoral seasons.

Police are pursuing leads to establish whether the attack on Mlok was politically motivated or linked to personal disputes.-Gio del mundo
