DAVAO CITY — Covid-19 chief implementor Carlito Galvez on Tuesday has recommended the reversion of the city’s quarantine status from Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) to General Community Quarantine (GCQ).

In a meeting held at Camp Sgt. Quintin Merecido, Galvez cited the rising Coronavirus cases in the city and the appeal of the medical frontliners for the reversion of the quarantine.

Earlier on, a group of physicians has appealed to the government to declare either an Enhanced Community Quarantine or General Community Quarantine for them to breathe as the influx of patients in the isolation facilities and at the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) has exhausted them.

The medical frontliners have earlier expressed concerns about being restless in attending to the patients and they lack rest.

Galvez said to arrest the increasing case, the CGQ quarantine status is proper and people movement will be limited.

The meeting was attended by Interior and Local Government Secretary  Eduardo Año and other health officials of the region.

But, the recommendation of Galvez will be submitted to Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, who has the final say about the concern.

Alex Roldan, the DILG XI regional director in an interview with Newsline.ph stressed, “The recommendation of the Inter-Agency Task Force will be forwarded to Mayor Sara, who will have the final say on the issue if she will concur or decline”.

Roldan said if she will concur, the Mayor will set the guidelines and policies which will be implemented- after which, she will submit her concurrence and recommendation to the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force for approval, and once approved, it will be implemented.

Philippine National Police XI (PNP-XI) Regional Director Filmore Escobal in an interview with Newsline.ph revealed, “The regional health officials and epidemiologist presented their study and observation and it was observed that the barangays near the riverbanks have high cases of Covid-19 and there was even a recommendation for a barangay lockdown, but everything will depend on the decision of the Mayor”.

The PNP, Escobal said “Is always ready to support the decision of the city, we are here to support and ready to implement whatever order is given us,” Escobal stressed.-Editha Z. Caduaya/Newsline.ph
