DAVAO CITY — The city will soon prohibit videoke singing during the daytime, as described in a resolution ordinance which was approved on the third and final reading, Tuesday, November 17, during the regular Council session.

Under the ordinance, videoke singing is prohibited so that students and those who are working from their home will not be disturbed because they are attending their classes, under the new learning mode via distance learning scheme.

The ordinance, according to Councilor Jessica Bonguyan, the proponent, aimed at providing a conducive atmosphere for learners who are studying and office employees who are working in their respective homes.

The ordinance prohibits the use of videoke from 7 o’clock in the morning until 5 in the afternoon, from Monday to Saturday, except during Sundays and during regular and special holidays.

It so exempts KTV establishments.

The ordinance penalizes a violator P1,000 during the first offense; P3,000 pesos during the second offense; and, P5,000pesos during the third offense or imprisonment for three (3) days and community service.

The ordinance empowers the Barangay officials to implement the ordinance and issue citation tickets to any violator.

The ordinance has a ‘no contest’ provision, which means, a violator may immediately pay the fines and penalty without any question, but this can only be done once.

The ordinance was created after the city government received numerous complaints from residents, parents, and office employees who are studying and working from home.-Newsline.ph
