GENERAL SANTOS CITY — City Mayor Lorelie Geronimo Pacquiao on Wednesday led the groundbreaking ceremony for Phase 2 of the Walkable Center Project at the City Oval Plaza grounds. The project aims to transform the entire government center complex from the Oval Stage to the Plaza Heneral to make it even more attractive to the city residents and even tourists.

The city is pushing for the completion of the project with the first phase already completed. The entire facelift project costs P71 million in line with the continuing aesthetic enhancement and greening of the local government center and nearby areas.

The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) allotted some P21 million for the second phase and P28 million for the third phase of the local government center enhancement.

Pacquiao also revealed the plan to rebuild the Oval Grandstand and construct a boxing gymnasium with a fund of P30 million.

“I am happy because we are going to break ground on this project that the people of General Santos have long desired…what can be improved, what are the projects, let’s find a way to continue because we know that the people need it very much in General Santos,” Pacquiao said.
