CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY –
The family of ambush survivor Lanao del Sur Gov. Mamintal Adiong Jr. ruled out “Rido” or family or political feud as the motive in the ambush late Friday afternoon along the highway of Barangay Delimbayan in Maguing town.

Police reports revealed, Adiong’s convoy was waylaid by still unidentified individuals as the governor was on his way to Wao to attend the town’s founding anniversary. Four of Adiong’s security escorts were killed on the spot.

Police authorities identified those killed as Staff Sgt. Mohamad Juraij Adiong, Cpl. Johaine Sumander, Pat. Jalil Cosain, and the driver known only as “Kobi.” Ali Tabao, a member of the governor’s staff, was also injured.

During the press conference held at a hotel here Saturday afternoon, Representative  Ziaur-Rahman Adiong of the province’s 1st district, said it’s highly unlikely that “rido” was the reason on the attempt on the governor’s life saying his brother has no known political enemy and he is using a nonbullet-proof vehicle.

“That’s an indication that he felt that he did not need to augment these security measures whenever he went around the province,” he added.

The lawmaker said that road where the attack occurred was the governor’s usual route whenever he goes to other parts of the province, especially Wao.

In an earlier statement, the congressman said, “We implore the authorities to act with urgency and utilize all legal means available to pursue and bring the perpetrators to justice” adding that the attack was a condemnable act and must not be taken lightly.

“We are heartbroken over the deaths of his security detail, all of whom are family members who were with my brother during the violent attack. We offer our deepest sympathies to all of our bereaved loved ones,” he added. The solon, meanwhile, conveyed his gratitude to everyone who has offered their prayers and support to his family.-Jigger Jerusalem
