DAVAO CITY – The preparations for the burial of Davao Oriental Governor Carazon Malanyaon took place early in the morning at the Davao Memorial Park in Davao City.
The tents were already set up at the location, and even the benches surrounding the area were prepared for the attendees of the governor’s burial.
According to Samuel Astacaan Jr., the Park Operation Manager of Davao Memorial, they worked round the clock for 24 hours to ensure that everything was in order for Governor Malanyaon’s final rest. Instead of manually digging the ground for the burial site, they utilized a mini backhoe to expedite the process. The pillars for the governor’s museum were also installed.
Samuel Astacaan Jr. stated, “In behalf of Davao Memorial, we made sure that everything was well-prepared because the preparation days were near. Yesterday, by God’s grace, we were able to finish the digging and installation of the tents. Fortunately, everything went smoothly. The 30 lots were the governor’s family’s own land, and maybe when the time comes, they will settle it and build the museum.”
At around 2 p.m., the carriage carrying Governor Malanyaon’s remains arrived at the Davao Memorial Park from St. Paul Church in the city. The crowd paid tribute to Governor Malanyaon despite the hot weather, as they wanted to witness her final journey. It was a display of their love and respect for the governor.
Strict security measures were implemented to ensure order and safety. Among those attending the burial was Malanyaon’s close friend, Felominia Dujali. According to Felominia, she could not have missed the chance to bid farewell to her dear friend. She described Malanyaon as a kind-hearted person and praised her for being genuine and down-to-earth. Felominia believed in Malanyaon and her family, considering them to be trustworthy and intelligent individuals.
The place was filled with deep sadness as more than two thousand people attended and accompanied Malanyaon to the Davao Memorial. Officials from the provincial and local government of Davao Oriental, as well as employees from the provincial capitol and local government of Davao City, were present to pay their respects.
