Guv condemns councilor’s killing

MONKAYO, Compostela Valley — Compostela Valley Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy condemned the killing of Monkayo Councilor Danilo Daanton.

Uy ordered the provincial command to conduct a full dress investigation on the incident.

Uy said urged the police to uncover the people behind the killing of Daanton, who is also the incumbent village chief of Barangay Banlag of Monkayo, Compostela Valley.

Daanton was declared dead on arrival when he arrived at the ComVal Provincial Hospital. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

The 44-year-old village chief was gunned down 5:55  p.m. last Saturday, April 21 at Purok 9 Golden Plains Subdivision in Barangay Poblacion.

Initial police investigation said the councilor was talking to some players he played with basketball earlier when unknown suspects fired at him.

A certain Nathaniel Ilagan was also hit in the stomach during the shooting.

Investigation disclosed that in 2016, Daanton already received threats on his life after he facilitated the surrender of some members of the New Peoples Army.
