DAVAO CITY (January 22) —  A hero’s welcome awaits Senator and Philippines’ boxing icon Manny Pacquiao in General Santos City today.

The city  government is preparing a fete when Pacquiao returns home this week from his successful World Boxing Association(WBA) welterweight title defense in Las Vegas.

In a Facebook posts after the fight, Pacquiao thank God, wife,  family and supporters,   “Thank you Lord for the victory! Thank you to my wife Jinkee, my family, friends and fans from all over the world. Thank you to everyone who watched my fight tonight. Thank you for all your support. I wouldn’t be where I am today without all of you. May God bless you all!”

GenSan City Mayor Ronnel Rivera said  the city has prepared for the homecoming of their  “favorite son”.

Pacquiao is reportedly  coming home today.

Rivera said “We are very fortunate because our people’s champ won again. So we will wait and will give him the best hero’s welcome.”

Pacquiao, who hails from Barangay Labangal , was last given a grand hero’s by the city when he wrested the WBA title in July last year from Argentinian Lucas Matthysse in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Rivera, a close political ally of Pacquiao, said it is only fitting for the entire city to celebrate the latter’s latest triumph.

The mayor said the senator’s victory affirmed that the city “is indeed home of the champions.”

At 40, Pacquiao still displays the skills of a real fighter and he has proven the world that he is a champion.-NewsLine.ph with report from PNA
