LAMITAN CITY – The Balay Silangan Reformation Center, located in Rose Ville, Little Cebu, Barangay Maganda, Lamitan City, Basilan, was officially inaugurated on September 13.
Mayor Roderick Furigay led the inauguration ceremony, attended by prominent figures including Governor Jim Hataman Salliman, Vice Governor Yusop Alano, board members, representatives from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), the Police Provincial Office, provincial directors from the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) ministries, officials from local government offices, barangay officials, and religious leaders.
The Reformation Center has been established to accommodate voluntarily surrendered drug pushers who aspire to transform their lives and seek a better livelihood.
The facility is designed to host pushers and plea bargain participants for three months, during which they undergo a one-month mandatory in-house program covering education, health, psychosocial support, and physical activities. This is followed by a two-month livelihood or employment educational phase.
