Indak Indak highlights Mindanao culture and colors

DAVAO CITY — The four-hour Indak Indak sa Kadalanan on Saturday highlighted this year’s 38th Kadayawan Festival, the street dance showcased the colorful culture and colors from different tribes all over Mindanao fostering unity and celebrating diversity.

The vibrant and culturally rich city of Davao has eleven (11) major tribes which is distributed all the 183 villages of the city.

The city is blessed with 11 ethnolinguistic tribes namely:  Ata, Maguindanaon, Matigsalug, Bagobo Klata, Maranao, Obo Manuvu, Bagobo-Tagabawa, Tasug, Sama, Iranun, and Kagan.

Among the colorful celebrations, the Hiyas sa Kadayawan 2023 took center stage, culminating on the night of August 17, with an exceptional display of culture and unity. This year’s Hiyas sa Bagobo-Klata, Kristine Claire Tar, stood out as an example of unity, culture, and progress. Her coronation marked her as this year’s Hiyas sa Kadayawan, symbolizing the essence of the festival.

The Champions et al:

In the Davao City school-based catergory of Indak-Indak sa Kadayawan 2023, the Davao City National High School’s Sining Sayon Dawet Cultural Ensemble grabbed the grand champion while in the open category was awarded to Sindac Anib Performning Ensembel from Bislig Surigao, Surigao del Sur, each champion received the P1-million reward.

Other awards which all went to Davao City National High School included the following : Best in Music; Best Choreographer ( Bryan Ellorimo) ; Best Costume and Best Moment.

Other winners in the school-based category included : Catalunan Pequeño National High School ( Second Runner-up with P500,000); Lapu-lapu Elementary School (Third Runner-up with P400,000); Lacson Elementary School (3rd Runner-up with P300,000); Mabini National High School (5th Runner-up with (200,000).

The Open Category, the participants are from outside Davao City, The Agusan Del Sur Artist (5th Runner-up with P200,000); Banayan Performing Artists from Banaybanay, Davao Oriental (4th Runner-up with P300,000); Landang National High School (3rd Runner-up with P300,000) and ; Tribu Maganahay from Matiao National High School Special Programs for the Arts of Mati City (First Runner-up with P500,000);
