Sultan Kudarat (August 29)–  The Municipality of Isulan, Sultan Kudarat has cancelled all of the activities relative to its 61st founding anniversary and the 7th Hamungaya Festival due to tight security concerns.

Two persons died and 34 were injured, including a seven-year old girl when an improvise explosive device (IED) exploded in the middle of the town festival.

Malacañang vowed to punish those behind the act. “Ang pangako po ng ating Pangulo, ang Mindanao po ay nasa martial law pa rin at gagawin po natin lahat para malaman kung sino ang nasa likod nitong pagbobomba namang ito sa Sultan Kudarat (But what President Duterte promised is Mindanao is still under martial law and we will do everything to identify those behind the bombing in Sultan Kudarat),” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, in an interview  emphasized.

The explosion took place at about 8:30 in the evening of Monday.  Army 6th Infantry Division Chief Brig. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, disclosed that the explosion took place in front of Caltex gasoline station where the people were gathered to watch the event.

Isulan police chief Supt. Celestino Daniel said witnesses saw an unidentified suspect left the IED attached to a motorcycle which was abandoned in front of a used RTW stall along the national highway here, just several meters away from the municipal hall.

Four injured victims are still in critical condition.  The bombing took place despite the tight security measures laid down by authorities to thwart earlier threats from the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF).

Authorities remain on full alert as it continues the manhunt for the perpetrators of the untoward incident. NewsLine
