Kin of NCCC mall fire victims to get P50,000 aid

DAVAO CITY — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will be extending a total of P50,000 in assistance to each of the families of the 38 workers who died in the NCCC Mall in Davao City.

A P3,700 monthly survivorship pension to the kin of the victims will be released after the disbursement of P50,000 asssistance.

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III earlier ordered the release of P30 million as assistance to more than 2,000 employees affected by the NCCC mall fire.

Bello also ordered the Bureau of Working Conditions, Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC) and the Employees Compensation Commission (ECC) to provide the necessary assistance to affected employees as well as those who died in the mall fire.

The ECC will give P30,000 in burial assistance to the kin of the fire victims while the DOLE Davao office will extend an additional P20,000 for each of the affected families of the 38 victims.

Bello promised to ensure a zero displacement of the affected employees.

The P30 million fund will be used for the emergency employment of the affected employees.

The management of NCCC in its report to DOLE stated that 192 agency-deployed workers under Bmrick Cooperative, will possibly be deployed in another mall in Davao City.

The management of SSI, the BPO company located inside NCCC, committed to pay the salaries of their workers until December 31, 2017, as they also assured workers of employment within the next 60 days for the resumption of their operation.
