DAVAO CITY, Philippines-–Lady Prosecutor Eleanor Polancos Dela Peña was tragically killed while alone inside her car when an unidentified gunman approached and shot her multiple times, hitting her head, around 5:00 pm on Monday, June 10, at Chapter 8, Tinda Aplaya in Digos City, Davao del Sur.
Dela Peña was the assistant provincial prosecutor of Davao Occidental.
Eyewitnesses recounted that a lone assailant riding a Honda Click motorcycle approached the victim and fired the fatal shots.
De Leon was alone inside her vehicle bearing license plate number NGG 7966 when the brutal crime occurred.
The Integrated Bar of the Philippines Eastern Mindanao chapter issued a statement strongly condemning the ruthless killing of Prosecutor Dela Peña.
“This heinous acts of violence against a dedicated public servant and a former president of the chapter not only shocks our legal community but also undermines the very foundations of justice and the rule of law the Prosecutor Dela Peña tirelessly upheld throughout her career,” the IBP Davao in a statement said.
“We call upon the law enforcement agencies to spare no effort in swiftly apprehending swiftly apprehending those responsible for this cowardly act, The perpetrators must be brought to justice and made to answer the crime in the full measure of the law,” the IBP Eastern Mindanao statement stressed.
Various legal groups are fervently demanding justice for the prosecutor’s untimely demise.
The Digos City Police in a press statement said they dispatched personnel to “Conduct hot pursuit operations for possible arrest of the suspect. Likewise, massive checkpoints were launched to cordon the whole province and tightened the security of border control points to prevent the suspect from escaping to nearby provinces.”
