Starting from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. Thursday, March 19, 2020, and until the public health emergency is lifted, liquor is banned in Davao Region.

In an order issued Thursday, the manufacture, transport, and trading of methanol-based products are also prohibited in Davao Region, aside from the regionwide liquor ban.

The order signed by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, chairperson of the Davao Region Covid-19 Task Force prohibits the selling or serving of liquor, alcoholic beverages, coconut wine and other beverages that may cause intoxication.

Establishments found violating the order shall be arrested and closed down immediately.

Meanwhile, the City Government of Davao warns the public against the purchase of repacked methanol labeled as ethyl alcohol.

These products are reportedly proliferating the city.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), methanol is a toxic alcohol that is used industrially as a solvent, pesticide, and alternative fuel source. It is highly toxic and is not at all suitable for consumption. (MCV)
