DAVAO CITY (April 28) —- A crocodile bit a man after he mistakenly believed it was a plastic figure at a public park in Barangay Laih, Siay, Monday morning.

According to the Zamboanga Sibugay Police Provincial Office, authorities received a call at around 11:48 a.m. reporting that a man had jumped into the water at Warf, Laih Batu, a public park, where a crocodile latched onto his right leg.

Police investigation revealed that the man, who reportedly has mental health issues, thought the crocodile was a plastic display trapped in the water.

When the crocodile’s owner arrived at the scene, the animal finally released its grip on the victim’s leg. Rescuers immediately transported the injured man to the Dr. George T. Hofer Memorial Hospital for medical treatment.

The incident remains under investigation.
