Marawi bombing fatalities rise to 4, 35 wounded

DAVAO CITY — Only four were killed while at least 35 were wounded when a still undetermined explosive went off at about 7:15 Sunday morning December 3, inside Dimaporo Gymnasium, MSU -Marawi City while a Catholic Mass was ongoing.

On Sunday, December 3, Major General Gabriel Viray III of the First Infantry Division in Marawi City announced that there were “More than 46 casualties recorded, including 11 deaths, after the horrendous bombing” but figures from the local government of Marawi and the provincial government says only four (4) as of press time.

The Ministry of Health (MOH), Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD), and other concerned BARMM agencies and other national government agencies immediately proceeded to Amai Pakpak Medical Center to assess the needs of the victims and identify other forms of help the Bangsamoro Gov’t could provide.

The Bangsamoro Government vowed to provide both immediate and financial assistance to the victims.

Furthermore, the BARMM Gov’t vowed to shoulder the hospital and burial expenses of all the victims.

Authorities have yet to identify the culprits behind the attack.

CONDEMNATION

Bangsamoro Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim, he emphasized that the transitional government fosters upholding peace and understanding in the entire Bangsamoro region, following the recent bombing.

“We stand firm and united against any form of violence and extremism that threatens the peace and harmony of our society,” CM Ebrahim stated.

“The Bangsamoro Government is fully committed to supporting and cooperating with the investigative agencies to ensure that those responsible are held accountable for their wicked actions,” he added.

The Chief Minister then urged the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation, saying, “to swiftly bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice.”

He also encouraged the Bangsamoro people to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or personalities to the proper authorities.

“Let us reject violence and all forms of extremism and work tirelessly towards a future where safety, justice, and tolerance prevail,” Ebrahim highlighted.

Likewise, the Bangsamoro Gov’t extends its condolences to the bereaved and commiserates with the peace-loving people of Marawi City, the statement added.
