Marawi locals avail DOE’s E-trike amid enhanced community quarantine

ILIGAN CITY — The local government unit of Marawi is now maximizing some 20 electric tricycle also called e-trikes as donated by the Department of Energy to the city government in 2018. It is part of the city’s rehabilitation and recovery program, and the purpose of which is to give free rides to the dialysis patients, health workers and the front-liners.

Marawi City Mayor Majul Gandamra said the city government is paying the drivers to transport regular dialysis patients of Amai Pakpak Medical Center (APMC) from their house to the hospital and back. These refers only to patients who are residents of Marawi.

The utility public transportations were suspended when Lanao del Sur and Marawi City imposed national call for enhanced community quarantine and the implement curfew hours from 6am to 6pm.

“The APMC is still catering regular patients including the dialysis patients who are having difficulties in their transportation,” Gandamra said. The free rides can also be availed by health workers and other frontliners.

Gandamra said health workers of the APMC are experiencing discrimination from the drivers of public transportation when their operations were not yet suspended. “The LGU wants to take care of our health workers and frontliners so that they can continue their services in Marawi City,” Gandamra emphasized.-Divina Suson
