DAVAO CITY — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. reaffirmed the shared commitment of the Bangsamoro and the national government to continue building upon the peace process’s achievements and ensure a brighter future for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

In his speech at the oath-taking ceremony of the newly appointed members of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) and the Grand Iftar, the President expressed his confidence in the new leader’s ability to carry forward the work of peacebuilding and development in the region.

“The signing of every agreement and its subsequent implementation is not just an act of fulfilling a promise. It is a step toward long-lasting peace,” President Marcos said. “I am confident that with your leadership, we will continue to progress in ensuring a prosperous and peaceful future for the people of BARMM.”

The event, which brought together key leaders of BARMM and the national government, served as a formal transition of leadership within the BTA and a celebration of Ramadan’s significance. The Grand Iftar also highlighted the unity between the people of BARMM and the national government in their pursuit of peace and socio-economic development.

As the BARMM continues its path toward greater autonomy, President Marcos emphasized the importance of collaboration and unity in achieving lasting peace, stability, and prosperity for the region. He assured the Bangsamoro people that the national government fully supports the region’s progress and is committed to fulfilling its obligations under the peace agreements, including implementing key reforms and initiatives.

The newly appointed BTA members were urged by the President to continue the difficult yet vital task of ensuring that the region remains on a path of inclusive development, with peace at the core of their governance.

The Bangsamoro peace process, which led to the creation of the BARMM, has long been viewed as a significant step in resolving long-standing conflicts in the region. The recent developments under the Marcos administration are seen as a promising continuation of these efforts to build a sustainable and peaceful future for all residents of Mindanao.
