MANILA (September 3) – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Wednesday called on provincial governors to help curb irregularities and ensure the proper implementation of government projects.

Speaking at Malacañan Palace during the oath-taking of the new League of Provinces of the Philippines (LPP) officers, led by South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo Tamayo Jr., Marcos urged local leaders to serve with integrity, scrutinize projects, and expose anomalies, stressing that public funds must not be used for personal gain.

The President’s call comes amid ongoing investigations into alleged “ghost” flood control projects. He asked the LPP to act as a “guide, voice, and conscience” in addressing pressing issues, noting this is key to building a “Bagong Pilipinas” where citizens prosper, feel secure, and trust the government.

Marcos also pushed for faster frontline services through the use of new technologies, and sought broader implementation of the zero-balance billing program beyond Department of Health hospitals to include those managed by local governments.

For its part, the LPP pledged to support the President’s agenda over the next three years, including calls for greater LGU consultation in national projects, amendments to the 1991 Local Government Code, and improved disaster preparedness, health care, and waste management.
