BASILAN – A member of the 5th Scout Ranger Battalion successfully rescued a 15-year-old Indonesian national from the Abu Sayyaf group on Saturday, June 3.

Joint Task Force Basilan acting commander Col. Frederick Sales identified the rescued minor as alias “Addih,” who is allegedly the son of terrorists who bombed 2019 Jolo Cathedral bomber Abbang Rullie.

The target of the operation was Sulu-based Daula Islamiyah Abu Sayyaf sub-leader Pasil Bayali alias “Kera.”

According to the report, Mundi brought the Indonesian minor from Sulu when he escaped to avoid the relentless combat operation of the 1103rd Infantry Brigade.

The military engaged Mundi and Kera’s group in a battle, where one of the suspected members of the Abu Sayyaf group was killed, and the other abandoned the teenager.

The military immediately took the teen to the hospital for a medical exam.

It can be recalled that back in January 2019, 23 individuals and hundreds of people were injured in the bombing allegedly carried out by Abbang Rullie and Ulfa Handayani Saleh, who are the parents of the teen.

The military is still chasing the members of Mundi and Krea.

Westmincom Commander Lt. Gen. Roy Galido praised the members of the task force for the successful operation.
