Global fund backs new project to boost resilience, food security amid extreme weather

MANILA (October 31) — The Philippines has received a ₱8.7 million grant from the Adaptation Fund (AF) to develop a climate adaptation project that will help Mindanao farmers cope with extreme weather and protect food security, the Department of Finance (DOF) said.

Approved during the AF Board’s meeting in Bonn, Germany, the project aims to boost the resilience of fruit and vegetable farmers through sustainable agriculture financing, shared service facilities, and policy reforms.

The initiative will be led by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA).

The DOF added that another ₱796-million regional project is being prepared to strengthen rice production resilience in the Philippines and Malaysia using climate-smart technologies.
