Newly ordained Bishop grateful to the Archdiocese of Mati

May 1, 2018 by Althea Beatrice Caduaya Felizarta

Davao City, Philippines – Father Abel Apigo, the recently ordained bishop is entrusted to the local Church of Mati.

Ordained by Davao Archbishop Romulo Valles together with 41 bishops and 257 priests to the episcopacy last April 24 at San Pedro Cathedral, Archdiocese of Davao.

Bishop Apigo is beyond thankful to the local churches of Davao and Mati. “I look back with gratitude to God for the success of my Episcopal Ordination and Canonical Installation in Mati. I thank
those who helped in the planning, preparation, and in the actual celebration. I cannot ask for more.”

He is currently installed at the Cathedral of San Nicolas de Tolentino in Mati City the day after his ordination.

Prior to the ordination, Bishop Apigo bid goodbye to Regional Major Seminary of Mindanao (REMASE) where he served for almost 22 years (1996-2018), prior to bishopric, REMASE’ rector since
2006.

He also gave a message to his St. Alphonsus Theological and Mission Institute (SATMI) students thanking them for their cordial greetings as well as hoping that someday, they will become council
members and superiors in their respective communities.

Bishop Apigo is the third diocesan priest from the Archdiocese of Davao who was ordained bishop.

Daisy Canarias-Apat,  Executive assistant of the  Cultural Heritage Commission of the Archdiocese of Davao,  describes the new bishop as a good person “His obedience to the teachings and his spiritual mentors made him a good shepherd when he was rector of the seminary. He is also a good friend to everyone, so generous in keeping with the tenets of Christ’s “goodness” as humble servant to his people. He is special to our family too.-Pia Duran/Newsline.Ph
