MAGPET, North Cotabato – The Sangguniang Bayan (SB) here unanimously approved Monday a resolution authorizing the local chief executive to negotiate a PHP150-million bank loan for the improvement of the town-run Magpet Water Works and Services (MWWS) utility.

The LGU is set to transact the loan with the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) to fund the expansion of lines to consistently deliver round-the-clock water service to its consumers.

“The expansion would also pave the way to the construction of water bulks to serve the adjacent town of President Roxas and the city of Kidapawan,” Jupiter Rubino, Magpet municipal administrator said.

Before this, the resolution suffered a series of deferments after several councilmen opposed the measure for alleged lack of consultations.

Rubino, however, insisted that they have already conducted a series of consultation with the Municipal Peace and Development Council (MPDC), whose members also passed a resolution recommending the project.

Mayor Florenito Gonzaga has pledged for the speedy implementation on the project which he described as a “landmark infrastructure”.

“The project will also resolve the increasing demand of households from the current 3,000 water consumers,” the mayor said.

Once completed, the project is projected to increase the annual revenue of MWSS that could be used to develop more water sources and reach villages facing water scarcity.

“Its (MWSS) current PHP7-million annual income will probably increase which will be used to other extension services in the community,” Rubino said. MWSS is a long-running water utility duly-supervised and operated by the Magpet LGU. -PNA
