PANABO CITY (August 27) – The Local Government of Panabo successfully celebrated Press Freedom Month 2025 on August 26 at the Freedom Gym in Barangay New Pandan. The event carried the international theme “Reporting in the Brave New World – The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Press Freedom and the Media,” reflecting the growing integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in media work.
Guest speaker and TV reporter Jandi Esteban underscored the rise of AI in communication and education in today’s digitalized era. He cautioned, however, that while AI offers many advantages, it also poses risks such as the spread of fake news that could harm individuals and communities.
City Mayor Jose Relampagos reminded media practitioners to remain fair and accurate in their reporting. “Di mo pataka og sulti isip mga media, dapat fair lang inyong mga balita kay para han-ay ang pagpadagan sa atong siyudad,” he said, stressing the importance of truthful reporting for the city’s progress.
Mayor Relampagos also encouraged local media practitioners to formally organize under a Local Media Board to ensure proper recognition and support from the city government. During the program, legitimate media practitioners and groups in Panabo received certificates of registration from the LGU.
The event also featured a Graphic Design Competition Display, showcasing the creativity, technical skills, and visual impact of participating Panaboans through their artworks.
City Councilor Josie Mary “Boss JM” Relampagos, Executive Secretary Jo-anne Relampagos-Capuyan, department heads, LGU employees, national government agencies, media practitioners, vloggers, teachers, students, and other guests joined the celebration.
