DAVAO CITY— The Philippine Embassy in Tokyo has helped 815 Filipinos Fly Home to PH since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Philippine Embassy in Tokyo helped another batch of 204 Filipino tourists, students, and overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) stranded in Japan to return home via a chartered flight on 04 July 2020.

The Embassy mounted the repatriation flight, in close coordination with the Philippine Consulate General in Osaka and Nagoya, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO)-Tokyo, and Cebu Pacific.

The flight departed from Narita International Airport. The 204 passengers, some coming from as far as Okinawa, departed from Narita International Airport onboard the third repatriation flight organized by the Embassy since travel restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in multiple cancellations of commercial flights for stranded Filipinos in Japan.

This flight brings the total of those repatriated by the Embassy to 815 individuals since February, following the repatriation of 445 seafarers onboard the M/V Diamond Princess last February, and a batch of 166 stranded individuals on 01 June 2020.

The Embassy also assisted the Philippine Consulate General in Osaka in facilitating the repatriation of over 300 overseas Filipinos last month, of whom are 209 technical intern trainees and 126 seafarers onboard the M/V Costa Atlantica in Nagasaki.-Newsline
